Kerala – Survey Started for Homeless People under Kudumbashree mission

Survey has been started to identify homeless people in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala under Kudumbashree mission. This mission works for State Poverty Eradication Mission (SPEM). Main motive of this mission is to provide affordable houses to homeless people residing in urban & rural areas of the state. Survey will be completed within one month.

Survey for homeless people living in rural areas will be done on gramsabha level & ward level for urban homeless people.

Central assistance will be available to them as PMAY, SUH (Shelter for Urban Homeless) & NULM. Facility for home loan will also be available to beneficiaries.

Pinarayi Vijayan CM of Kerala would donate land for the implementation of this project by organizing a campaign from 2 October this year. About 2,000 acre land would be required out of 123 acre land has been found.

So far 5.06 lakh eligible candidates have been found & survey is still in progress. If any candidate is deprived from survey, they would be given 2 chances to make an appeal.

After completing survey, beneficiaries will be selected on basis of eight risk factors. A separate scheme would be formed for homeless people with land & homeless people without land to construct houses.

LDF Government (Left Democratic Front) has made an announcement to implement this mission to make affordable housing units easily available to poor families/homeless people within 5 years.

Survey would be held across 93 urban local bodies, 87 municipalities & 6 corporations. Shelters will be given to identified candidates in ratio of 60:40 by Central & State Government under NULM (National Urban Livelihood Mission).
